Dalam kajian bahasa ada dua jenis kalimat yaitu kalimat aktif dan kalimat pasif. Dalam bahasa Inggris kalimat tersebut biasanya disebut dengan active voice dan passive voice. Passive voice adalah kebalikan dari active voice yang merupakan sebuah kalimat yang subjeknya bergerak atau melakukan aktivitas.

Passive voice merupakan sebuah kalimat yang subjeknya dikenai suatu perbuatan atau kegiatan. Dalam bahasa indonesia sendiri, passive voice diawali dengan beberapa imbuhan seperti ter- ataupun di-. Sedangkan dalam bahasa inggris kalimat passive voice biasanya juga diakhiri dengan imbuhan seperti -ed, -en, -d, -t, -n, dan -ne.

Kalimat passive voice biasa digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan beberapa hal seperti:

1. Mendeskripsikan atau menjelaskan sebuah proses.
2. Menegaskan pada sebuah berita sehingga terasa lebih objektif.
3. Memberikan sebuah pengantar dalam kegiatan yang formal, seperti surat, laporan, dan perkuliahan.

Bentuk kalimat passive voice

Dalam membentuk sebuah kalimat pastinya kita membutuhkan sebuah pola kalimat.Dalam kalimat passive voice, auxiliary verb akan berubah kedalam beberapa bentuk sesuai dengan waktu kejadiannya.
