1. Hitler wanted to be a priest when he was a child

Turns out Hitler was speaking highly about the local abbot in the Mein Kampf because he attended a parochial school in Lambach, Austria, and served as altar server and choirboy at his local church.

2. Hitlers first crush was a Jewish girl

Nobody but Hitler knows that he had a secret crush on a Jewish girl, Stefanie Isak. Hitler was a 16-year old by then and never had courage to talk to her, let alone share his feelings with her. He had these fantasies of kidnapping her and running away, and even thought of committing suicide with her, but she ignored him.

3. Hitler dropped out of high school in 1905

Hitler dropped out of high school at the age of 16 and dreamt of becoming an artist. His mother wished for him to learn a trade or get a steady job, but Hitler was not a brilliant kid at school. He had to repeat the 6th grade and was rejected from an acclaimed art school twice. He had a good friend Linz Kubizek who became the only person who learned many of Hitlers wildest dreams and fantasies.

4. Hitler lost one of his testicles during the First World War

In 1916, Hitler was wounded in the abdomen and lost one of his testicles at the battle of the Somme. A German medic saved him and referred to him as a screamer. The only question he asked the doctor was, Will I be able to have children?

5. Hitler was obsessed with his niece Geli Raubal

This is a rather unsettling fact about Hitlers unusual sex life. He was said to highly obsessed with his niece and rumor had it that the relationship was of a sexual nature. He kept her inside and away from her friends, and as the result she committed suicide in 1931 at age of 23.

6. Hitler was a vegetarian and was stood against animal cruelty

Although Hitler was known to having consumed meat until 1937, he adopted the vegetarian diet at one point, as he was widely known. He also didnt drink alcohol nor to smoke, and get irritated by images of cruelty. He believed in animal rights, an ironic fact considering how he treated so many people.

7. His nephew joined the U.S. Navy and fought against him

Hitler had a half-brother named Alois Hitler Jr. and his son was William Patrick Hitler. William was born in Liverpool, England and in 1933 he moved to Germany to work for his uncle. Hitler then requested that William renounce his British citizenship, so he left Germany as he feared the trap. In 1939 when the WW2 broke out William was in the US for a lecture tour and decided to write a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt to join with the US Navy.

8. The woman who designed Hitlers bunker had a grandson who went on to design Saddam Husseins

Hitlers infamous bunker was fired at by 7 bunker buster bombs and 20 cruise missiles but was pretty much unscratched. It had a power station, air and water treatment plants, and would have allowed people to live in it for more than 12 months, as it included fresh supplies and dried food in the cold storage rooms.

9. Hitler was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1939

A member of Swedish parliament, E.G.C. Brandt, nominated Hitler for the Nobel Peace Prize in the eve of World War II, 1939. He didnt get the award because it was intended as a satirical joke due to the political debate in Sweden at the time.

10. Hitler relied heavily on drugs

A recent discovery found records and letters from Hitlers physician showing that he had a cocktail for more than 80 different drugs prescribed to him daily. His favorite in particular was Pervitin, as its main ingredient is crystal meth. The drug was issued to troops on his front line.

11. Hitler was addicted to chocolate

Another of Hitlers must-have daily intake other than drugs was chocolate. He could eat approximately one kilogram of it every day. One time, he disguised a bomb in dark chocolate and wrapped in black and gold paper as an attempt to kill Winston Churchill. Luckily the bomb was discovered by British agents at the right time.

12. Hitler planned to kill all residents in Moscow and replace the city with a lake

One of his plans was to invade and capture Moscow. Hitler planned to open the sluices of the Moscow-Volga Canal and turn it into an artificial lake to permanently submerge it. The plan to take on Russia became the downfall of the Nazi regime so fortunately we arent swimming in Moscow today.

13. Adolf Hitler had 42 known assassination attempts on his life

The fact that someone might try to kill Hitler is not a surprise, but surviving all 42 of assassination attempts is clearly something quite remarkable, if not to prove how lucky he was. Its rather unfortunate for those that attempted as they perished while Hitler lived on.
