What a time to be alive for 90s kids. Earlier this year, trailer for super heroes Power Rangers reboot was published and it brought joy to our inner child.
But Power Rangers are not the the only superheroes coming to theaters soon, there is another hero that will be brought to the big screen someone closer to our hearts: Indonesia's own Wiro Sableng.
Yes, that guy with long hair, funny lines, and awesomemoves.
In case you don't know whom we're talking about,Wiro Sableng is a fictional axe-wielding Pencak Silat warriorfeatured in aliterary series, calledWiro Sableng Kapak Maut Naga Geni 212 (212 Warrior) written by Bastian Tito. The seriesweresold around million copies and credited as the longest running novels in Indonesia by farwith185 volumes since 1967 until 2006.
The novels were also adoptedas tv series and movies in the 90s, starring Ken-ken, Tonny Hidayat and Herning Sukendro.
Fox International Productions (FIP) is collaborating with Indonesia's Lifelike Pictures to bring Wiro Sableng back to life and possibly release the movie worldwide.
The movie will feature Vino G. Bastiian Bastian Tito's son- as Wiro Sableng, Marsha Timothy and Sherina Munaf.
The screenplay adaptation is written by Sheila Timothy, Tumpal Tampubolon, and Seno Gumira Ajidarma, while award-winning Angga Dwimas Sasongko will be the director.
If that's not enough for you, there will be Yayan Ruhian as action choreographer. If you've seen The Raid, you know you can expect great action from the Mad Dog.
Combining our understanding of the Indonesian market and audience preferences with FIPs expertise, 212 Warrior will satisfy the demand of Indonesian audiences for a good quality film. (FIP president) Tomas Jegeus, (FIP Excecutive Producer) Michael Werner and I agreed to make the 212 Warrior a great commercial movie. We look forward to expand the collaboration to the series, Sheila Timothy said via a prepared statement.
Themovie is set to come out next year.
