Brilio.net/en - What if all your home furniture was made of mushrooms? Well, should you bored with them already, you can just brake them apart and simply throw the shales on the grass. Theyre biodegradable.

No, this design is real! A designer of eco-friendly products has hatched the idea. The Mush-lume is a series of lamps inspired by and manufactured with mushrooms, literally. They are not the disgusting ones or the edible ones. These lampshades are rather clean, chic and modern in style.

Danielle Trofe worked on hydroponic planters that could fit into chic office floor plans and off-the-grid lighting systems. Instead of being inspired by the environment, she rather use it as a building material and the Mush-lume project is one of them.

Trofe developed Mush-lume in partnership with green materials company Ecovative. The products are come from agricultural waste products, mostly corn stalks and seed husks. The farm byproducts are packed into a plastic mold which is injected with liquified mycelium; a fungus that grows on the materials and binds them together like glue.

Like weve mentioned before, the idea of using mushrooms for home furnishing might be a turn-off for some. They simply dont like to think about the spores that scatter leather couch, and many others. But thank God, Trofe and Ecovative have taken great measures to make horticulture home friendly.

In order to ensure that the mushrooms dont reporuce, Ecovative bakes the mushrooms and guarantees that no manure used in their production process.

Its a fun and playful design that bridges the gap between conventional product materials and the new and unconventional, says Trofe. My goal as a designer is to harness new technologies in user-friendly, accessible designs.

Well, having mushrooms as lampshades maybe not a bad idea, at all.
