Rumus Simple Past Tense beserta fungsi dan contohnya

Tenses adalah perubahan bentuk kata kerja (verb) yang dipengaruhi oleh waktu terjadinya kejadian/peristiwa. Jumlah keseluruhan tenses ada 16, salah satunya yaitu simple past tense. Berikut ini adalah penjelasan simple past tense:

Simple Past Tense.

Fungsi simple past tenseyaitu:

1. Menyatakan suatu kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau (tidak mempunyai hubungan dengan masa sekarang) dengan waktu yang umum (general).

Contoh: My mother went to Surabaya 2 months ago.

2. Menunjukkan kebiasaan di masa lampau.

Contoh: My brother studied English when he was a senior high school.

3. Menyatakan jangka waktu di masa lampau.

Contoh: I lived in Gresik for 18 years.

4. Menunjukkan kejadian berurutan yang terjadi di masa lampau.

Contoh: Fidya had a breakfast, went to the school, and followed the lesson in the class.

Rumus verbal sentence.

(+) S + V₂ + O

(-) S + Did + Not + V₁+ O

(?) Did + S + V₁ + O ?

(-?) Did + Not + S + V₁ + O ?

Contoh:

(+) He bought a car last week.

(-) He did not buy a car last week.

(?) Did he buy a car last week?

(-?) Did not he buy a car last week?

Rumus nominal sentence.

(+) S + To be (was/were) + 3C (Noun/Adjective/Adverb)

(-) S + To be (was/were) + Not + 3C (Noun/Adjective/Adverb)

(?) To be (was/were) + S + 3C (Noun/Adjective/Adverb)?

(-?) (Wasnt/werent) + S + 3C (Noun/Adjective/Adverb)?

Contoh:

(+) We were a student last year.

(-) We were not a student last year.

(?) Were we a student last year?

(-?) Werent we a student last year?

Catatan:

1. Penggunaan to be: (you, they, we,benda jamak => were), (I, she, he, it,benda tunggal => was).

2. Untuk kalimat verbal simple past tenseyang negative (-), interrogative (?), dan negative interrogative (-?) menggunakan "did" untuk semua subjeknya.

3. Jika pada kalimat simple past tenseyang negative (-), interrogative (?), dan negative interrogative (-?) terdapat did, maka kata kerja (verb) setelahnya kembali ke bentuk V₁, bukan V₂ lagi.

4. Time signal yang digunakan adalah yesterday, two (days/weeks/months/years) ago, last time (day/week/month/year), this morning, dll.
