Brilio.net/en - This animation video documentary released by BBC news is an illustration of the tough situation of Chinese kids that have been left behind by their parents when they had to leave the countryside and move to bigger industrial cities in order to find work.
At the end of 2011, China had 690.79 million citizens living in cities while 656.56 million were living in the countryside. This figure got reversed in 2012: the increasing development of the industrial aspects of the country over the last decades being the main reason behind this massive exodus.
Cities and factories have indeed grown seemingly out of nowhere, forcing companies to hire employees far away from the location of their factory.
The lack of work and the poor living conditions in the Chinese countryside motivated millions of men and women to move to those rising cities, leaving everything behind them. In some cases, even their own children. According to recent estimation, we are talking about over 60 million kids that have been left by their parents, who were forced to simply because they couldnt take care of them while working.
With virtually no holidays, no days-off allowed and rest time far below what is humanely acceptable, there is indeed absolutely no way to raise a child while working at a factory. In addition, it is simply forbidden by most companys policy for workers to be accompanied by their children.
The case of those children left behind inspired BBC to release an animation video relating the story of one of these kids.
