Universitas Islam Indonesia RectorHarsoyo resigned following the death of three students after taking part in a camping trip run by the university's Adventure Club.
The week-long trip was held in Mount Lawu, Central Java,on Jan. 13 to 20.
The victims are Muhammad Fadhli, an electrical engineering student; Syaits Asyam, an industrial engineering student; andIlham Nurfadmi Listia Adi, an international law student.
Harsoyo promised his resignation would not mean he's running away from his responsibility.
I will keep on assisting this case until it is solved," said Harsoyo ina press conference on Thursday.
Research and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir has heard about Harsoyo's resignation and expressed his appreciation for the decision.
Nasir also promised to work with Private Universities Coordinating Body to solve the case.
