A participant of the camping trip run by Students Adventure Club of Indonesia Islamic University that allegedly claimed three lives recounted his experience to Research and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir on Thursday.

M. Rahma Daniel, the surviving participant, has been hospitalized since returning from the deadly camp but now is able to share his story.

Participants had to do push up, rolling, [and] crawling. Some were beaten and slapped. [Some were] beaten on their chest and stomach, he told the minister.

Headmitted that the slaps and punches were not given only when they made mistake. The committee got away with saying that the beating was a part of their standard operating procedure.

"Basically, if we couldn't (perform the punishment) and backed off (from the event), (they will give us) more punishment. They would beat us even worse. So we had to endure it until the end," he said.

Rahma claimed that the more participants wanted to quit, the morepunches they received.

Victims M. Fadhiel and Syait Asyam wanted to quit and received more beating. Both of them are dead now.

"I dont know who beat us. I dont know everyone (there) because I am new student and I haven't known everyone," he said.

The week-longcamping trip was heldin Mount Lawu, Tawangmangu, Central Java on January 13 to 20, 2017.

Three students have died not long after returning from the trip. They areMuhammad Fadhli, 20, anelectrical engineering student from Batam who died on his way to Karanganyar Public Hospital on Friday;Syait Asyam, 20, anindustrial engineering student from Yogyakarta who died in Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta on Saturday, andlham Nurfadmi Listia Adi, a law student who died also inBethesda Hospital Yogyakarta on Monday.
