One of the most recognizable movie scores was bestowed the honor by Classic FM listeners for the sixth year running.

Brilio.net/en - Howard Shore's iconic soundtrackbeatJohn Williams' score forSchindler's Listattwoand Hans Zimmer's work onGladiatorat three of theMovie Music Hall of Fame poll.

However, Williams had the most scoresin the top 10with his work fromStar Wars,Harry PotterandJurassic Parksittingatfour, seven and nine respectively.

John Barry also ranked in the top 10with hissoundtracks forOut of AfricaandDances With Wolves.

Ennio Morricone'sThe Missionscore andKlaus Badelt's work onPirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearlcompleted the top 10.

Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins, told Classic FM of theThe Lord of the Rings'score: "The music is a huge part of the identity of those films.

"I think film scores are always extremely important with regard to the atmosphere and the emotional connection that you have to a film.

"Those pieces of music - you think about the Hobbiton theme - they're really iconic."

Wood also comparedTheLord of the Ringsto Williams' work, saying:"They sort of transcend the films themselves, almost like John Williams' [scores].

"The pieces fromStar Warsare so iconic. We hear the music, we know the films and I think to a certain degree that's the case withRingstoo, with Howard Shore's score."

The list of 100 top scores wasbased on listeners' votes.

James Horner, whodied in a plane crash in June, saw his soundtracks toAvatar,Apollo 13,BraveheartandTitanticrise in the chart.

Zimmer's work onInterstellarwas the highest new entry, at 43.
