The story takes place in the in the interwar period and relates the adventures of a very special family, the Shelbys. Calling themselves the peaky blinders, the Shelbys are dangerous gangsters, a tribe led by one of the three brothers, Tommy Shelby. Inspired by a true story of a similar family-crew terrorizing the streets of Birmingham in the 20s, chased for years by the police.
Between rigged bets, arms trafficking and other crimes of all kinds, the Peaky Blinders eventually end up being right in the sights of the Irish Inspector Chester Campbell. This latter hires Grace, a double agent who pretends to work as a waitress in one of the pubs the gang uses as a cover business. The overall outline of the show involves a large range of characters: the gangsters and the policemen of course, but also the communist workers looking to knock down the monarchy system, the housewives trying to exist as women in a very dominant context after the wars and the Irish in rebellion.
Not only is the show very interesting from a historical perspective (there is a lot to learn about the history of UK and the difficult situation of its citizen after the first World War) but is also topical and will keep you in tenterhooks in every single episode.
The current release of the very expected new season of Game of Thrones might put Peaky Blinders a bit in the shadows but TV experts dont have any doubts about the fact that Peaky Blinders will soon be at least as popular as the American giant! Snoop Dogg himself met the director to congratulate him and theres rumours about a movie adaption.
